a sheet of paper.
on the way home from work the other day, I saw the side of a building that when looked at from a specific angle appeared to be nothing more than just a tall, standing, sheet of paper.
I was dumb - founded by how it looked.
my attitude has been taking a lot of my energy recently.
making sure that I am having the best attitude possible has been the number one focus of my time and it really takes a lot to make sure that you are being the best that you can be. from what I can tell though, this is the main game. keeping a positive attitude even when anything/everything else is not going as you anticipated because when that’s gone, you might really have nothing else.
I’ve been doing a lot of talking with people to make sure that my mental is in the right place, but keeping the course is so important and not self - isolating either.
for work, we’re reading this book, “Do Hard Things." by Steve Magness. in a very brief and over - simplified view, in chapter 5, one of the main talking points is that between two different test groups, one set of dogs made the necessary changes to prevent being shocked during a set of experiments while the other group did not. the main difference between these two groups? during two different shocking experiments, the first group was given chances to change their circumstances in the first set of experiments and prevent getting shocked while the second group received were helpless to prevent the shocking. there’s a lot of different factors that go into this that I just really don’t have the time to go into here, but the main takeaway is that there is a degree of learned helplessness that some organisms can undergo.
this learned helplessness leads to decay of the mind then the body.
the chapter then goes on to speak on early expeditionists making their way to the new world from the old world. how many of them died not of physical ailments, but of sickness of the mind. an apathy. a lack of a will to go on due to a lack of control of their own lives.
life is crazy because it can be cruel and it can be cold and it can be warm and it can and will be everything in between. you could never control all of the temporary situations that life throws at you, but you can take control back little by little and do the things that you can control.
be creative, write a blog that a few people read, make music, paint something, learn an instrument, bake a new treat, try a new skill, pick up a new hobby, anything. if you’re ever struggling with your life give yourself a little bit of control over your life everyday until you can stack in a new win. if you never know where to start, a singular sheet of paper with your goals written on them would be a good place to start in my experience. then tape it to where you HAVE to see it everyday.
I hope you’re doing well out there. we’re moving.
from the chateau.
action / everything.
all praise is due to the most high.
